A new job in a new state. Old accounts still tied to the last one.

Sandy Springs is home to the headquarters of UPS, Cox Enterprises, Inspire Brands and Mercedes-Benz USA. Almost half of its residents were born in a different state, and nearly one in four households reports income of $200,000 or more.

If one of those jobs brought you here, you could be holding a new benefits package, an old 401(k), a house you sold or kept elsewhere, and your first Georgia tax return. Each piece was set up for a different chapter.

As you choose someone to help, look first at whether they act as a fiduciary and what they earn from their advice.

Your New Employer’s Benefits

A headquarters role can bring more choices than your last job: a 401(k) match, sometimes a Roth option, a health savings account, and bonus or stock plans for some roles. We review the elections you made in your first weeks and check whether they still fit.

Our guide to employer and government retirement plans explains how to read a benefits package.

The Accounts You Left Behind

An old 401(k) can stay where it is, move into your new plan or go to an IRA. Each choice has trade-offs, and leaving it in place is sometimes the better choice.

We list every account, what it costs and how it is invested, so you can see the whole picture before you decide anything.

A House in Another State

If you kept your old home as a rental, it brings rental income, costs and a decision about when to sell. It can also mean a tax return in that state. If you sold it, we review how the sale was reported and where the money went.

Your First Years as a Georgia Taxpayer

Georgia taxes income at a single rate, 4.99% for 2026. If you became a Georgia resident during the year, you generally file as a part-year resident for that year.

Our investment management service then builds one investment plan across the old and new accounts, so they work together instead of side by side.

How We Work with Clients in Sandy Springs

Holland Capital Management is an independent registered investment adviser and a fiduciary. M. Chad Holland, CFA, CFP® works directly with clients and is responsible for the planning and advice.

Bring your benefits summary, statements from your old and new retirement plans, a recent pay stub and your last two tax returns.

What you get is a written plan that ties your old accounts, your new benefits and your Georgia taxes together.

The first conversation is free. If there is work worth doing after that, we will define the scope and cost before you decide whether to move forward.

Our offices are in Charlotte, North Carolina and Winter Park, Florida. We work with clients in Sandy Springs primarily by video or phone. When an in-person meeting makes sense, we meet by appointment at the Regus center in Glenridge Highlands One at 5555 Glenridge Connector.

For clients whose investments we manage, accounts are held directly at Charles Schwab in the client’s own name. Holland Capital manages the investments but does not take custody of client assets. If a client ever needs in-person assistance from Schwab, the closest branch is in Sandy Springs at 1105 Hammond Drive.

We work with clients throughout Georgia. You can see the other Georgia communities we serve here.

Our what we do page explains how a planning engagement works.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does My Old 401(k) Need to Follow Me to My New Job?

Not always. It depends on the fees, the investment choices and the features of each plan. Moving can make the accounts easier to manage, and staying can work too. We compare both before you choose.

Why Choose a Fiduciary Financial Advisor After a Corporate Move?

Holland Capital acts as a fiduciary when providing financial planning and investment advice. For someone who relocated for work, it means looking at the old and new accounts as one plan, including the ones we will never manage.

If you move an old 401(k) to us, our pay goes up, and you hear that from us before you choose.

Where Would We Meet in Sandy Springs?

In a meeting room at Glenridge Highlands One, by appointment.

Routine follow-ups work well by video or phone.
