The last years of an airline career. An age limit set by federal rule.

Peachtree City sits in Fayette County, a short drive from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. Roughly six in ten residents 25 and over hold at least a bachelor’s degree, and a quarter of workers do their jobs from home.

For pilots flying under Part 121 airline rules, federal regulations generally end that flying at age 65. That known endpoint gives you a specific number of working years to plan around.

Before you act, confirm that the person advising you is a fiduciary and how they are paid.

Planning Around Age 65

We start with the date you expect to stop airline flying, then work backward. That shows how much you need saved and how your income will change.

Your plan should also hold up if you stop flying earlier than you expect, for medical or other reasons.

Saving in the Peak Years

In the years before 65, we decide how much to save, where to save it and how to manage taxes on higher income. If your plan offers both pre-tax and Roth contributions, we compare the two for your tax bracket now and later.

Our guide to financial planning for airline pilots covers more of the pilot-specific details.

Health Coverage, Social Security and State Tax

Medicare eligibility generally begins at 65, the same age airline flying ends. If you retire earlier, you need coverage until then. We also plan when to claim Social Security so it fits the rest of your income.

Georgia lets residents 62 and older exclude part of their retirement income from state tax, and we build that into the plan.

Investing After the Last Flight

Once paychecks stop, your savings become your income. Our investment management invests your accounts to support withdrawals while keeping a long-term mix.

Frequently Asked Questions

How Is Holland Capital Paid?

We offer financial planning on a fixed-fee basis, subject to the scope of the engagement. Investment management is offered on a fee basis, generally calculated as a percentage of the assets we manage. When providing financial planning and investment advisory services, we act as a fiduciary. Holland Capital Management may also receive commissions when clients buy insurance through the firm. Those commissions create a conflict of interest, which we disclose in our Form ADV.

How Does a Fiduciary Help a Pilot Plan for 65?

Holland Capital acts as a fiduciary when providing financial planning and investment advice. For a pilot, that means advice on saving, retirement timing and investments together, with your interests first.

Rolling your airline plan into an account we manage would raise our fee, and we disclose that before you decide.

Is There an Office Near Peachtree City?

Yes. We meet by appointment at the Regus Main Street Office Center, 320 West Lanier Avenue in Fayetteville, about 15 minutes away.
