As a fiduciary financial advisor in Marietta, Holland Capital helps Air Force Reserve and Air National Guard members with civilian careers fit a future reserve retirement into the rest of their plan. Video and phone calls cover most of the work, and in-person sessions are scheduled at a Regus office on Canton Road.
Two careers. Two sets of retirement benefits.
Marietta is home to Dobbins Air Reserve Base and a large Lockheed Martin aerospace plant. About 5% of adults are veterans, and about 11% of workers have government jobs.
If you serve in the Reserve or Guard while holding a civilian job, your retirement has more moving parts. Your civilian employer’s plan, your military Thrift Savings Plan and a future reserve pension all need to fit together.
Before you hand that plan to anyone, find out whether they are a fiduciary and how they are paid.
When Reserve Retired Pay Starts
Reserve retirement generally requires 20 qualifying years of service. Retired pay usually begins at 60, and certain active duty service can lower that age. We confirm your expected start date from your own records.
The years between your last drill and your first retirement check still need a plan.
Your Civilian and Military Savings
You may have a 401(k) at work and a TSP account from your military service. Your elective contributions to a civilian 401(k) and the TSP generally share one annual IRS limit, so we check how much goes into each.
Our guide to military retirement financial planning covers more of the military side.
Health Coverage Along the Way
Your TRICARE options can change when you transfer to the Retired Reserve and again when you reach age 60. Your civilian employer’s plan may also be an option. We include the cost of each stage in your plan.
Taxes and Investments
Georgia has its own rules for taxing military retirement pay, and we confirm the current rules in the year your pay begins.
Our planning looks at your civilian and military accounts as one portfolio. Our investment management covers any accounts you choose to have us manage.
How We Work with Clients in Marietta
Holland Capital Management is an independent registered investment adviser and a fiduciary. M. Chad Holland, CFA, CFP® works directly with clients and is responsible for the planning and advice.
Bring your retirement points statement, your TSP and 401(k) statements, a recent civilian pay stub and last year’s return.
You receive a written plan that shows when each benefit begins and how your savings cover the years in between.
The first conversation is free. If there is work worth doing after that, we will define the scope and cost before you decide whether to move forward.
Our offices are in Charlotte, North Carolina and Winter Park, Florida. We work with clients in Marietta primarily by video or phone. When an in-person meeting makes sense, we meet by appointment at the Regus center at 1335 Canton Road.
For clients whose investments we manage, accounts are held directly at Charles Schwab in the client’s own name. Holland Capital manages the investments but does not take custody of client assets. If a client ever needs in-person assistance from Schwab, the closest branch is in Atlanta at 3260 Walton Riverwood Lane.
We work with clients throughout Georgia. You can see the other Georgia communities we serve here.

Frequently Asked Questions
How Is Holland Capital Paid?
We offer financial planning on a fixed-fee basis, subject to the scope of the engagement. Investment management is offered on a fee basis, generally calculated as a percentage of the assets we manage. When providing financial planning and investment advisory services, we act as a fiduciary. Holland Capital Management may also receive commissions when clients buy insurance through the firm. Those commissions create a conflict of interest, which we disclose in our Form ADV.
How Does a Fiduciary Financial Advisor Help Someone Still Serving in the Reserve?
Holland Capital acts as a fiduciary when providing financial planning and investment advice. For a Reserve or Guard member, that means advice on your military and civilian benefits together, with your interests first.
Our compensation rises if your TSP or 401(k) comes under Holland Capital’s management, and you learn that before any decision.
