You want to help your parent. You also need to retire someday.

Johns Creek is a city of homeowners. About 80% of homes are owner-occupied, and about 36% of households earn $200,000 or more.

Helping a parent can mean covering rent, care, medical bills or a monthly allowance. The amount you provide may change over time. At the same time, you are still funding your own retirement.

You also deserve to know whether the advisor helping you is a fiduciary, and how that advisor is paid.

Setting a Support Amount You Can Keep

We start with what your parent needs, what your parent already has, and what other family members may contribute. Then we test how much you can give each year without moving your own retirement date.

If the answer is lower than you hoped, we show you the trade-off clearly so you can decide.

What Your Parent Already Has

A parent’s own savings, Social Security, pension or home are part of the picture. We look at those first. With your parent’s permission, we can review statements and help you understand them.

Keeping Your Retirement on Track

Your parent’s needs may last many years. Our retirement planning work sets the target your own savings need to reach, so support and saving can happen at the same time.

Where the Money Comes From

Support can come from current income, cash savings or investment accounts. Each source has different tax effects. If we manage your investments through our investment management service, we account for the support you plan to give when setting aside cash and investing the rest.

How We Work with Clients in Johns Creek

Holland Capital Management is an independent registered investment adviser and a fiduciary. M. Chad Holland, CFA, CFP® works directly with clients and is responsible for the planning and advice.

Bring a recent pay stub for each earner, your retirement and savings statements, a list of what you currently pay for your parent, and last year’s tax return.

You get a written plan that shows a yearly support amount and how it fits with your retirement.

The first conversation is free. If there is work worth doing after that, we will define the scope and cost before you decide whether to move forward.

Our offices are in Charlotte, North Carolina and Winter Park, Florida. We work with clients in Johns Creek primarily by video or phone. When an in-person meeting makes sense, we meet by appointment at the Regus center at 11555 Medlock Bridge Road.

For clients whose investments we manage, accounts are held directly at Charles Schwab in the client’s own name. Holland Capital manages the investments but does not take custody of client assets. If a client ever needs in-person assistance from Schwab, the closest branch is in Peachtree Corners at 5150 Peachtree Parkway.

We work with clients throughout Georgia. You can see the other Georgia communities we serve here.
