As a fiduciary financial advisor in Atlanta, Holland Capital helps single professionals in their 50s plan a retirement that one income, one set of savings and one Social Security benefit will carry. Most of the work happens by video and phone, and in-person meetings are by appointment in Midtown.
One paycheck. One retirement plan to get right.
Atlanta is a city of professionals. About 59% of adults 25 and older hold a bachelor’s degree, and about 19% of households earn $200,000 or more. More than four in ten residents were born in another state.
If you are single and in your 50s, every retirement decision is yours to make. There is no second paycheck to fall back on and no spouse’s pension or Social Security to coordinate. Each choice carries more weight.
Before you hand that plan to anyone, ask two questions. Is the advisor a fiduciary? And how is the advisor paid?
Setting a Retirement Date on One Income
The first question is when work can become optional. We start with what you spend, what you have saved, and what your workplace plan and Social Security statement show.
With one income, there is no second earner who could keep working a little longer. So we test your date against a few weak years in the market early in retirement. Our guide to sequence of returns risk explains why the first years matter.
Social Security When the Benefit Is Yours Alone
A married couple can coordinate two benefits. Your own earnings record is the starting point. If a prior marriage lasted at least 10 years, a former spouse’s record may also matter.
Claiming early means smaller checks for more years. Waiting means larger checks for fewer years. We show how each claiming age fits with your savings. Georgia does not tax Social Security benefits.
Deciding Who Would Step In
Without a spouse, it helps to decide now who would handle your money if you could not. That may include a durable power of attorney, a health care directive and current beneficiaries on your accounts. We review the beneficiaries and work with your estate attorney on the documents.
Your Investments and Georgia Taxes
At Holland Capital, investment management follows the written plan. We set how much stays in cash and bonds for the next few years of withdrawals and how much stays invested for growth.
Georgia has a flat income tax of 4.99% for 2026. From age 62 through 64, Georgia lets you exclude up to $35,000 a year of qualifying retirement income. From age 65, the limit is up to $65,000. We plan your withdrawals with those limits in mind.
How We Work with Clients in Atlanta
Holland Capital Management is an independent registered investment adviser and a fiduciary. M. Chad Holland, CFA, CFP® works directly with clients and is responsible for the planning and advice.
Bring your latest 401(k) and IRA statements, your Social Security statement, a recent paycheck stub and your most recent tax return.
The written plan you receive shows a retirement date, a Social Security claiming age and an order for withdrawals, built around one household income.
The first conversation is free. If there is work worth doing after that, we will define the scope and cost before you decide whether to move forward.
Our offices are in Charlotte, North Carolina and Winter Park, Florida. We work with clients in Atlanta primarily by video or phone. When an in-person meeting makes sense, we meet by appointment at the Regus center at 1201 Peachtree Street in Midtown.
For clients whose investments we manage, accounts are held directly at Charles Schwab in the client’s own name. Holland Capital manages the investments but does not take custody of client assets. If a client ever needs in-person assistance from Schwab, the closest branch is in Atlanta at 1075 Peachtree Street NE.
We work with clients throughout Georgia. You can see the other Georgia communities we serve here.

Frequently Asked Questions
How Is Holland Capital Paid?
We offer financial planning on a fixed-fee basis, subject to the scope of the engagement. Investment management is offered on a fee basis, generally calculated as a percentage of the assets we manage. When providing financial planning and investment advisory services, we act as a fiduciary. Holland Capital Management may also receive commissions when clients buy insurance through the firm. Those commissions create a conflict of interest, which we disclose in our Form ADV.
What Does a Fiduciary Financial Advisor Do for Someone Planning Alone?
Holland Capital acts as a fiduciary when providing financial planning and investment advice. For a single professional, that means advice on your savings, Social Security and Georgia taxes as one plan, with your interests first.
If we manage your investments, our fee is a percentage of those assets, and we explain that before you decide.
Where Can Atlanta Clients Meet with Us?
In Midtown, at the Regus center on Peachtree Street, by appointment.
