A good salary. A growing 401(k). No clear answer on whether it is enough.

Franklin is home to the North American headquarters of Nissan. About 25% of Franklin households earn $200,000 or more. About 30% of workers work from home, and about 65% of residents 25 and up have a four-year college degree or more.

Saving a lot is not the same as knowing you are on track. A plan answers that question with your own numbers: what you spend, when you want to stop working full time and what your accounts can support. Before you hire anyone, ask whether they act as a fiduciary and how they are paid.

Putting “On Track” into Numbers

We start with your spending and a target year for stopping full-time work. Then we estimate what your savings, future contributions and Social Security can support.

The answer is a range, not a promise. We review it each year.

How the Accounts Work Together

The 401(k) is often the largest account. A brokerage account adds flexibility because it is not subject to the retirement-plan early distribution penalty. Cash covers near-term needs.

We look at all three together, along with any IRA or HSA. Our guide on how to maximize retirement savings as a high-income professional covers the order of saving.

Checking the Investment Mix

Accounts opened at different times can end up holding more of one kind of investment than you meant to own. Our investment management builds one portfolio across the accounts we manage, with your other accounts considered in the overall mix.

When the Answer Changes

A raise, a new child, a home purchase or a job change can move the plan. We update the numbers when your situation changes, not only at the annual review.

How We Work with Clients in Franklin

Holland Capital Management is an independent registered investment adviser and a fiduciary. M. Chad Holland, CFA, CFP® works directly with clients and is responsible for the planning and advice.

Bring your 401(k), brokerage and bank statements, your most recent pay stub, a rough monthly budget and your Social Security statement.

We deliver a written plan that shows whether your savings are on pace for your target year and what to change if they are not.

The first conversation is free. If there is work worth doing after that, we will define the scope and cost before you decide whether to move forward.

Our offices are in Charlotte, North Carolina and Winter Park, Florida. We work with clients in Franklin primarily by video or phone. When an in-person meeting makes sense, we meet by appointment at the Regus Cool Springs III center at 725 Cool Springs Boulevard.

For clients whose investments we manage, accounts are held directly at Charles Schwab in the client’s own name. Holland Capital manages the investments but does not take custody of client assets. If a client ever needs in-person assistance from Schwab, the closest branch is in Franklin at 520 Cool Springs Boulevard.

We work with clients throughout Tennessee. You can see the other Tennessee communities we serve here.

Frequently Asked Questions

How Is Holland Capital Paid?

We offer financial planning on a fixed-fee basis, subject to the scope of the engagement. Investment management is offered on a fee basis, generally calculated as a percentage of the assets we manage. When providing financial planning and investment advisory services, we act as a fiduciary. Holland Capital Management may also receive commissions when clients buy insurance through the firm. Those commissions create a conflict of interest, which we disclose in our Form ADV.

Why Work with a Fiduciary Financial Advisor Before Retirement Is Close?

Holland Capital acts as a fiduciary when providing financial planning and investment advice. For a Franklin professional, that means honest numbers about your pace, including when the plan shows you are behind.

Our investment fee is a percentage of the assets we manage, so it grows as your managed balance grows. We tell you when a recommendation affects what we are paid.

Where Do We Meet Franklin Clients?
